A late addition to the issue concerning pressuring change in the government through blogging is Zul Funkmasta. He postulates that not only the education system that does not encourage voicing out ideas, but it is also the Bruneian culture of discouraging the voicing out of ideas, concerns and criticisms.
We can blame it on the education system or even our own culture for this 'sydrome'. The idea of voicing out ideas, concerns and criticisms are some what not part of our 'operating system'.
Perhaps so. But when the concern will impact the way of life my children and grandchildren are going to have, I am more than willing to risk a lot. I'd want the youths of the future not be burdened with problems caused by bad choices made during our times. The situation is all too familiar and unpleasant.
Am I being too idealistic? It seems so. Ultimately I yearn for a better future, my own, and for others. If the way English is being taught and tested (or not taught) can and might help us in the future (and it will), then it is a cause well worth the effort.
