LSM beat me to it! Serves me right for waking up LATE. I have just read this piece from the Borneo Bulletin’s Rosli Abidin Yahya.
On the hand, he said, it should not be ignored that there are bloggers who act as the “voices of the voiceless” such as the marginalised and the underprivileged.
I am confused. Should the “marginalised” and “underpriveleged” not be given voices? Is it not okay, for me, for example, who is not underpriveleged, to bring forth issues that the underpriveleged do face daily?
I do feel negative vibes from this article, whether it is from the journalist, or whether it is from the supposed “expert” who has only been in Brunei for five minutes, I’m not really sure.
WHO ARE YOU?
The conference will give an overview of the latest evolution in communication modes in both print and electronic media, gauge how far new media technologies can help to strengthen participatory democracy in societies, instil social responsibility among Internet users, encourage debate among stakeholders on the emerging trend of suppressing the rights to openly discuss public matters, and foster the development of a well-informed citizenry.
Keep an eye out for such a conference. Pfft. Keep an eye out also on who will be attending. We’ll find out who he is soon enough.
Isn’t it cute that news such as these came riiiiiiiight after this?
Reporters Without Borders has voiced alarm that Malaysia could introduce repressive legislation on the Internet after the science and technology minister, Kong Cho Ha, said the government planned new rules to block its malicious use and prevent bloggers from posting news jeopardising social harmony.
Hmmph.

Oh, please. Not again. Too tired for this. And why does Borneo Bulletin have to somewhat make the blogging scene feel so discouraged? Why can’t they follow the steps of Brunei Times and embrace it. LOL.

I think, they meant to say “on the OTHER hand”. Which, of course, means bloggers like you are good for Brunei.
Amazing what one single word can do, eh? What the freakin’ hell are the proof-readers doing?

oi! never believe wat dat journalist writes in his articles. he is one vicious subjective twit. his views are very one-sided and he’s always trying to find ways to “make the public aware” of supposed disharmony sedangkan it wasn’t a big issue to begin with.
