From Bangkok to Brunei in safety

One thing I love about blogs and the blogging world is that you can always count on getting first hand information about things that do not really get to the news. For example, here is an short description of post-bombing Bangkok, as reported by Alistair’s home base and wife, somewhat semi-Brunei based blog.

Meanwhile, after the bombings, Bangkok and surroundings are crawling with troops. Even our apartment block has a truck with soldiers outside it! I always knew we were really important but that is ridiculous! πŸ™‚ But duty on city streets does have its advantages compared to the barracks. Saw one young soldier dancing away to the music blaring out of the speakers next to the shopping mall he was guarding. The straight arm in the air a la John Travolta is definitely embellished somewhat when holding an automatic rifle! πŸ™‚ Seriously, they are taking no chances. Security is much tighter everywhere. And yesterday they took away Thaksin’s diplomatic passport, so things are getting stickier. The latest poll in Bangkok also says that the govt’s popularity has plummeted since the bombings – understandably, I guess.
