Upchuck reflex

This comment has been extracted from BR’s post. I have an opinion on it.

Jokes aside, it is written in the Holy Quran that when writing an agreement, they must have 2 men as witnesses. And if there is only one man, then the witnesses will be one man and two women. (Refer the Holy Quran 2:282)

Now why have two women replaced one man? I listened to a sermon once and the Ustaz explained that a woman is generally more emotional than a man and thus it’s why 2 women have replcaed one man as witnesses.

Bullshit (did I just accidentally prove to you that women are emotional?). What the hell? Emotional? No, the reason why two women are needed to replace one man is to avoid fitnah, to avoid fuming jealous husbands (one man + one woman = get it?).

You disagree? Look me straight in the eye and tell me this to my face: Women in the olden days can say, “Husband, I am going to Ali’s place alone to become a witness because Abu died and he’s the only one man left in his house. Babai.”

This other comment from the same person made me feel as if I had a permanent wedgie up my posterior end.

If women and men were meant to be equal, how could men have achieved such total dominance over the world?

Aku telangap masa ku baca sentence ani.

Translation: My jaw dropped open when I read this particular sentence.

Yes I get it, you were trying to illustrate the obvious and visible point that men and women are not identical. But to jot down such a sentence that screams out “ignorance”?

MEN ACHIEVED TOTAL WORLD DOMINANCE BECAUSE WOMEN WERE FACED WITH SEXISM. WE WERE PUSHED INTO THE CORNER, MADE TO BELIEVE ALL THAT WE ARE GOOD FOR IS HOUSEKEEPING, CHILDBEARING AND LOOKING PRETTY. WOMEN WERE NOT GIVEN CHANCES. OUR GRANDMOTHERS FOUGHT, BLED, AND SACRIFICED TO ACHIEVE JUST A SEMBLANCE OF EQUALITY. AND GUESS WHAT? WE ARE STILL FIGHTING FOR IT. AFTER 4 GENERATIONS, WOMEN ARE STILL FIGHTING FOR THAT EQUALITY IN OPPORTUNITY.

For women who have been mislooked when it comes to promotion, my best advice to them is to be patient and have the satisfaction that you have given 100% to the job you’ve done although you might feel unjustly done by your superiors.

Unjust? When someone is passed over a promotion just because she is a WOMAN, her only option is to BE PATIENT? Only when you become a woman will u understand how frustrating that is. An act of injustice, by right, is punishable by law! Sadly such a wonderful clause only applies to men. Women can only sit and be PATIENT.

Eeeeeeehhhhh! *Screams* Why do people sit still and justify these acts when something could have been done?!

Flyboy, I know you probably meant well and did not expect to invoke feminist demons. But please, imagine all the injustice that has been invoked upon us, women. Us, women, who you were supposed to protect.

You know that feeling when someone looks at you a certain way (for fear of you being a terrorist) just because you’re Islam? Or if you’ve never felt that, how about that feeling you get when someone slaps you right in the face hard just because u have a chin, but you couldn’t fight back because if you did you’d be drowned in a public swimming pool while everyone watches on thinking, “it’s the right thing to do”.

Men, why are you so afraid of giving us that equality in opportunity? So we’re taking over the world. Yes, if you men are afraid of that. FIGHT BACK! If we are so frail, weak and emotional as you’ve said we were, then it won’t be too long till you catch up!

  2. Ironically, this is one of those times when a guy would just say, “Must be that time of month”.

Seriously though, men and women are not equal per se. Both genders are inherently different. But I do firmly agree that women should have equality in opportunity. I can’t stand sexism. I also can’t stand feminism. If you wanna fight for women’s rights, more power to ya! I’d fight with you for women to have equal rights. I just hate it when feminists say stuff like, “Whatever a guy can do, I can do better!”

Sorry lady, but you can’t. There are things men can do better, just as there are things women can do better. Women’s Lib is not about who does what better. It’s about giving women a chance despite gender differences.

And equality of opportunity is not simply a gender issue… A similar feeling arises when a non-Malay is passed over at the workplace for a Malay person. Granted, it’s not exactly the same, but it’s similar.

  4. I agree totally with having women’s right, but I was attracted totally to the article when i saw the Holy quran than after that a ‘B***S**T!’ to a quote u posted. No offence but, Yes we have come a long way from male dominance, but It is true that in the holy Qura’an there are certain aspects in llife where women can’t beat men and have to be under them in some circumstances, thats where I agree with Ches (comment 6).
However, in this new modern world full of technological advances, women are popping up more career oriented with more expertise, so when women do say ‘whatever a guy can do, I can do better’ that is so true. Not all men can take over the role of a natural born nuturer, mother and carer can they?
We should be proud of how far feminism has reached, even if in Brunei it is not visible. The only reason for that, and Im sorry to say, is the close minded characteristics of most Bruneian’s. Don’t mean to stereotype, but it is true that is why brunei has not moved anywhere econimacally and in the world. Imagine if we finally can match up to the standards of other developed countries, Brunei can than finally get on the map and be recognised.
Our hope now for all women are the mid-generations 1980-2000 babies who should be well educated and more suffice to challenge any limitations or restrictions in Brunei against the freedom of Femininity.. (there’s a whole other side to that but wont get into it here) Let’s just hope in order to have the movement, as Brunei tradition goes, we need an inspiring monarch to assist.. (i.e. P.A.I.S).
Anyways sorry to take up space, was passing by and felt the need to comment, but despite it all well done! to get a reaction like mine you know you’ve made a point. I discovered this page through BruneiResources and you have quite an intriguing blog. Carry on. God Bless…
