So, some of you might know how determined I am to have immense fun before the new semester starts. Part of this “immense fun” that I am trying to experience is, going to the Tanglung for the very first time.
I have no idea what to expect in a Tanglung really. In fact, I don’t know what it is celebrating, or what it is for. So, I actually had mindless fun last night, regardless of the fact that I was surrounded by a myriad of interesting odours which in no way was pleasant. However, it’s okay. Crowds are like that, I understand. Anyway, back to my being very ignorant, so naturally, when I saw festively decorated, themed-according-to-each-ministry floats passed us by, I assumed that THIS is the Tanglung that all my friends did not want to watch.
My exact words were, uttered quite loudly, as a matter of fact, “Ooooooooooo, ani rupanya tanglung ani!!!!! Kerita berhias~”
So after a day of showing off to everyone I know that I went to watch the Tanglung in Bandar, I came across this blog post made by someone who also went to the occasion.
Last night, a few of us went to Bandar for Tanglong, in which we were disappointed beucase there were no tanglong!Only kereta and basikal berhias (I only found out the latter when they announced the winners).
Eeeeeeeeek! NO TANGLUNG! And the kereta berhias wasn’t Tanglung! What the hell is Tanglung man! Aiyoh.
I don’t want to think about this. Headache headache.

I’ll leave u all with a picture of my favorite float. From some sort of a national dental association, I bring you. The BIG MOUTH. Nyahaha. You can just make out the person-sized toothpaste tube attempting to brush those ginormous teeth. Funny. I like.
SO! Anyway, bye bye summer vacation. Hello new semester.

Babe, I think Tanglung is where you carry candles in those paper lanterns..kan? Nda kah? Heh.

Ness, awu, ia tu tanglung ahh.. Aku dulu sampat masa ku damit2 lagi. Hahaha. I lived in Bandar before my family had a house of our own, so it was easier to witness these things. And they used to be really pretty lanterns as well!

Ness is right. Tanglong is paper lanterns with candles. We used to have it a few years back.
Miss the good old fun days 🙂
People were also wearing costumes, dressed up like skeletons, ghosts and whatnots. Used to scare me to bits. Heheheee…

You’re a good blogger, and I assume one of the best in Brunei? Cool =)
I am a chinese, and tanglung means some sort of lamp made by paper and sometimes bamboo too. =) The bamboo make up the structure, while the paper are used to wrap around the structure, to create some sort of ‘cage'(that’s what ‘lung’ means in chinese). A candle is then placed inside it(‘tang’ means light/lamp in chinese). =)
Cool way of expressing your thought, hehe, sounds ‘cute’? Haha.

IngSiang, thank you for the compliment. I like it. Hahahahaha.
But yes, I have found that out from my Chinese friends angrilly clicking on me in MSN after reading this blog, “YOU DONT KNOW WHAT TANGLUNG ISS???!!!!!” what you have basically just told me. Then, I have since concluded that the reason why it is not done anymore is because of political and religious reasons. Which! I believe is such a pity! 🙂

Haha, I wasn’t angry, just trying to let you know, incase you still don’t know. =)
By the way, for me, there’s not much of a reason to angry, and there’s really too little of political and religious concerns in it huh?
For me, it reveals the interesting facts in a multi-racial society like Brunei, which we always felt interested in the other races. We learn from each other, and observes how very different each of our races are, but yet we found some sort of balance and intergration in it.
“Unity in diversity.”, that’s the line for it. =)
By the way, I found it funny and cute when you said :
“Ooooooooooo, ani rupanya tanglung ani!!!!! Kerita berhias~”
Can’t stop laughing, and I had always been someone who cherrish for able to communicate with different races. However, sometimes I do hate some guys who kept on disturbing chinese. You’ll know this if you’re a chinese, and you walk in Bandar or what. =p but I don’t care much about them tho, but these guys had been creating quite a bad impression for their race in the chinese community tho. =(

Haha, it’s funny. =) Btw, you sure do change your template a lot huh? =)
Oh yea, feel free to read my blog @ http://vagabond.vrien-den.com. I don’t blog that frequent about Brunei as I think I am not really ready for it yet, so for the time being, I would stick with my area – Internet and E-commerce. =)

🙂 Okay, will do.
Btw, don’t feel any pressure to blog about Brunei. Quality over quantity! What I would ultimately want is for you and everyone out there, when they have opinions on certain things about Brunei, they’d be able to express them in their own blogs without fear of being popped instantly into prison.
And Yes! I do change my templates a lot LOL. I’m just experimenting because WP introduced a lot of new changes lately. Shiok.

Haha, I hosted my own WP, but well, I think changing of template is pretty time consuming. You know, search, downlaod, unzip, unload, code it to my need, add templates and etc, ngaleh(is this the right erm, verbal language in bahasa Brunei for tired? haha) eh? =)
Anyway, I might start my own WordPress hosting soon =) After my GCE tho, lots to study atm, hehe.
P.S: I don’t afraid of saying what I want, but well, my language isn’t that good(chinese-orientated) and well, no traffic? Haha. =)
