We are not in another dimension

WARNING: Do not read this is you are FULL, or STILL EATING.

I’ve written  about this before. Here, here and here.

It just amazes me how simply disgusting some things are in the most unlikely places and we’re only a small country! Look, at this picture. It is the old (one of the first I think) Baiduri Bank office. It is located in the most tourist-visited-area in Brunei, you might know this place: the city, Bandar Seri Begawan. Now, they’ve moved their Bandar branch to Yayasan, a good move I must say, but here is what remains.

The overall “Baiduri layout” is still there, and I’m glad the fungi are all keeping with the green theme. YUCK! And yes, that is a huge murky dark puddle on the floor. This is the ground floor and it is not raining. Please have a guess where the water actually came from. CLUE: UPSTAIRS. Get the picture?
You know, this really wouldn’t bother me much if it is in the nook and cranny of Bandar, well, actually no, I’m lying. I will probably still be bothered since it is THE CITY. I am having problems with the fact that Bandar is actually even called a CITY. I guess we’re more Gotham City. Digressing aside, the reason why I am really bothered by this is, there is a restaurant nextdoor. Yes, let the imagination run wild. But one thing for sure, I’m not eating at that restaurant with this next door.

Look at the following picture of the former entrance to Baiduri Bank. More murky water, and yes, more icky green.

Ick! This is so disgusting! And what more, near that is this:

When will this disease-infected building be demolished?

  1. Just a thought,, maybe we should just clean up and renovate the buildings instead of demolishing them.

We here in Brunei do not know how to preserve heritage etc. classic architechture of good old buildings (@ demolished PGGMB Building).. you know like how Singapore (along Killeney) & Malaysia (Malacca) preserve their old buildings tru renovation.

Modernisation is good, but, i believe Brunei has more potential maintaining their golden culture… heritage.. em… do focus on ‘promoting’ their open air departure hall (i can’t think of another country that has one @ the moment) 🙂 we’re so cool

  2. Hehe that’s the one in the picture babe.

Aenah and Nonnie, then again, this building is scarilly on the brink of runtuh-ness. The puddle of water suggests the fact that the ceiling is cracked substantially.

Maybe if it is a major piece of architecture, we should preserve it. However, this one. They are one out of thousands! Why should it be left there when replacing it with a better building/mall would generate more money?

Bruneians are just aching for more shopping malls!

  3. Tapi, at present if we ‘build’ more shopping malls, take the mall for example – boutiques open up, and close after a few months. Retail therapy is best done overseas for the mo.

  4. then again Aenah, it would be great if it siap just in time for visit brunei year 2008! 🙂 Hehe. Provided we emosi pitch for it NOW (Malaysia has been doing their MALAYSIA TRULY ASIA campaign everysince I was in kindergarten, when’s Brunei going to start?).

Lizzie and Reeda… now the AQUARIUM, THAT should have been preserved. One of Brunei’s major architectures really. Sayang.

  5. I agree it is disgusting to see the state of that place (ex-Baiduri) The owner need to do something about the place and in particular the authority (Bandaran) should DO something quickly since it is promoting the Bandar. Perhaps you ought to do something more then just posting here……
