Neverending markets

So, as a Bruneian, my mindset is that no trip outside of Brunei is meaningful until you’ve actually bought something. So I went and did a lot of shopping. Sure I did buy all those predictable things people buy when they go to India, like splendid shawls and sheer saree materials for the family.

This is one of the places where I bought them prettiness. It is the HUUUUUUGGGGEEST shawl shop I have ever been to.

After 3 more shawls were opened, they made me sit down. This picture was taken before the pile of shawls became a mountain of shawls in front of me.

The shop goes down right to the end. It was really really really huge! And guess what? This is ONLY the first floor. There is more in the basement, and the shop goes up to the third floor!

From outside, you really couldn’t have guessed.

One of my favorite pictures. The streets of Karol Bagh, is a market filled with neverending shops of premium local brands, to exclusive international ones. Nothing can beat the hustle and bustle of Indian streets. Everyone needs to go somewhere, everyone is in a hurry.

Cars, people, shops, motorbikes, pedestrians? You Parking Idiot would have a field day in this country. Hehe. Seriously no amount of memory cards can capture all the YPIs.

If you ask me, motorbikes are probably the best choice of vehicle (if you don’t mind smelling all the fumes of the cars next to you) for those living in this country. It is slimmer and thus easier to overtake cars. Fuel is cheaper and they’re actually easier to park. Not that I’m going to migrate to India or anything. Hehehe. Just a thought.

Random shot upwards to the sky (obstructed by these lines of course). But hey, no clouds (the fogginess is caused by the HAZE)! This is a dangerous looking line though.

Just because this is a shopping district does not mean we cannot have any schools in it!

And of course what market place is complete without streetside food vendors. I’ve never eaten from a streetside vendor no matter how delicious whatever they’re cooking due to my sensitive stomach. However, sometimes you see people buying from these vendors eating nearby and they devour everything in a matter of seconds. I can’t help but.. drool.

What can I say about shopping in Delhi? It brings out the shopaholic in the most frugal of shoppers! Everywhere you are practically bombarded with bargains and deals, RS100 (BND$2) for a set of hand made cushion covers! RS200 (BND$5) for trousers, shirts, jeans! Most shops accept any major credit cards, and ATM machines are available every few feet.

I didn’t bring a lot of money while I was there, but I sure wished that I had!

Lets just say that “it took my breath away!” I only stayed at Delhi for 3 days, and i spent a week at Goa (more south) and its more relaxing. Spent my days by the pool in the sun… It wasnt as freezing as Delhi… =D

I didnt do much shopping either. And i didnt buy any sarees or shawls. What person goes to India without buying sarees??

    *smacks hand onto forehead*

oh…and i TOTALLY agree with you about the roads and vehicles in India. One driver said to me. “You drive in India, you can drive anywhere in the whole world.” My sisters and I, nickname India as “horny”. Haha…
