Obligatory group photo

Ohhhh how can I not post this picture!

The wonderful GVDelhi2006 Bloggers and friends, in GVDelhi2006 T-shirts.

Picture from Quinnums

(Warning: Some reflections below which can be misconstrued as me being full of myself. REMEMBER: you have a choice to read or not to read. I am proud of my achievements thus that is why I have put them down here. However, if you have low tolerance levels for such things, I suggest that you do not read on. For others, proceed with caution.)

I am so honoured to be a part of this, to be part of something bigger than myself. =) These people has each, did something for their own country. Their passion had made me so inspired to do the same.

A few days before I left for India, some of my closer friends might know that I felt very disillusioned with blogging. In fact, some could’ve sense it from my heavy picture posts. Truth was, I felt that the drive I had for it has diminished, which probably explained my irregular posting (not that I was a very regular blogger before hehe), and the fact that I write less things about Brunei, most notably on Global Voices Online.

However, the Summit had left me feeling very inspired. I’ve always been so… focused on the Brunei blogosphere as a general. The Summit reminded me to think of how far I (as in me) had come since the beginning of this year.

I am a 20 year old girl (f*** it, who cares I’m young, don’t ever ask me my age again) who has bragging rights to say I’m one of the bloggers who persuaded Brunei Resources to move to Blogger (ask him it’s true)! I was part of the movement who revolutionised blogging in Brunei and made it mainstream! I am the first blogger ever to be interviewed on the radio for blogging. I did a lecture on it (albeit a not very good one due to my nervousness, but I have improved and will improve further!), and I am the first blogger in Brunei whose writings transcended into newspapers!

GVO reminded me of how far I have gone. Alhamdullillah.

So I thought: I did all that. Anything you throw at me after this is a cinch. The only way now is forward.

Bruneian bloggers, and readers, I wish to bring us further. I have some projects up my sleeves. Look out for more Maurina in the future.

  1. Awwh! *hugs* It takes a lot to admit one’s age. Hehehe. Seriously, though, I’m in awe of such inspiring events, and wish I could have gone through the same, but not everyone’s got to have the same footprints in people’s lives, right? 🙂

Count me in on any exciting projects! 😀

By the way, I see you!

  2. he is right. being shamelessly proud of yourself like this is not a good behaviour for a representative. i am sure the rest of the gvo do not act like you do. there is a big difference between helping people because you are a good person and helping people just to feel good about yourself. i think you can have good words but annoy some people. can you think why that is?

  3. *hugs* mau. Nda ku tecari mana ko dlm the pic, eh. Rosie jumpa?

You made the difference jua bah in the Brunei blogosphere, you should feel proud of it. Most people will only get invited to lecture after they graduate, and you did that before you graduate lagi.

To Scrooge: Given the circumstances, one can pat one’s self at the back for a job well done, and Mau did deserve patting herself at the back for that.

To noneedfornames: your statement that there is a big difference between helping people because you are a good person and helping people just to feel good about yourself implies that you perceive people who help are not being sincere about it.

When one person helps another sincerely, and the person feel good about his good deed, does that mean that the person is a bad person then?

Another thing, my dear, representatives are always shamelessly proud of themselves, most of them hire publicists/spokeperson to shield that fact. Why else does a Miss World/Miss Universe winner always brightly grin whenever the MC praise their beauty and talents after winning the show?

To both of you (scrooge & noneedfornames): stop being such a coward and show yourself. At least Mau and the rest of us don’t hide behind a nick that do not provide a backlink.

  5. well thank you for telling me how shameless i am and informing me of the vast difference between me and all the good people in GVO. your criticisms are very much welcome, as are all other forms of comments on my blog.

since i am very much in the dark of what is it that is acceptable in the world of being a representative, and you seem to know a lot, do enlighten me and the other readers what is it exactly that is considered “good behaviour”? enlighten us. really.

and do forgive me for calling people who do not make themselves accountable for their comments cowards. because, really thats what they are. and also irresponsible.

amyheidi + mamalobengs: :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D thanksssss for the support!!!!!!!!!!!! *gerup hug*

  6. I can see her! Unfortunately, no stars for this one. LOL.

To Scrooge and Noneedfornames, I think it’s her choice whether to “shamelessly” be proud of herself. Ever heard of the phrase “love yourself before loving others”? Well, now you have.

She’s just pointing out her achievements, which should encourage us to aim higher, not tear her up for it.

Be nice lah, this is her blog. It’s like her house and you are like her house guests. Do nice and well-mannered house guests tell the host to pipe down about anything?

Uh-oh. I can see my own blog post forming in my mind!

See you tomorrow, Miss “I’ve-been-to-India-and-I’m-already-missing-it”! 😀

You’re a toughie, you can handle this.

  7. amieheidi- it is indeed difficult to not derive satisfaction from helping others. but by helping and gloating about it……that speaks volumes about that person’s intention. helping people just so you can gloat about it later is just crying out for attention because what they do does not relay the message by itself. representatives are not always shameless. to take your example of miss world, you forget that they have won a competition. they have worked hard to fight off competitors and strive to be the best by facing the best. also miss world is unarguably about beauty so of course they smile and gloat. nvo is about more than that and i know the nvo well as well as the selection process.

maurina- you handled my comment well. i am not taking your merit away from you. you have done exceeding well for an age we shall never mention again 🙂 but save your pride for a bigger achievement. i am giving you clues to why you get more hate comments than amieheidi for example. i am not going to comment without being able to back my opinions up unlike a lot of your hate commenters (and i too think they are stupid and jealous). enlighten you? since you ask ok. do you know what it means to be a representative? it means you represent an entity/brand/person that is not yourself. and as a representative the actions you take have consequences on the thing you represent. it is your job to act in that thing’s best interest. if people dislike you they associate you with the entity and end up hating the entity too. this is easy to understand isn’t it? i have spent my life speaking to audiences and representing different high profile brands across different continents so you assume correctly that i know what it means and i know the more a representative agrees to their audience the more the thing they represent becomes noticed and praised. i have been guilty of gloating too but not in a public forum where my actions can be traced. i gloat to myself in private because i do not need to tell people i am proud of my achievements and not so often (reread your previous comments. you seem to NEED the praise).

my choice to remain anonymous should be respected if i act in a respectful manner. i have made criticisms and i have made praises. if you choose to only listen to one side of what i say it is not a reflection of my real opinion. i also wish to make my point and leave. i do not get into the habit of hanging around blogs to explain myself or make friends. what i have said is clear hence no need for names because i am not returning here. not because i am the coward you figure me to be. my belief is that you need to call someone a coward when reality is that knowing my name or who i am does not change anything, it will just give you a chance to talk bad things about that person behind their back and how productive is that really? namecalling is low and you know that having been on the receiving end. just like your blog my comments are take it or leave it and you say comments are all welcome.

me not accountable? this is not a discrepancy in a tax return. here is a lesson for you…..a stranger’s words can be more important than your friends word. your friends may be too nice to mention the things that other people notice about you. who knows maybe i am one of your friends going anonymous or someone you met recently who feels you can be better than this. the point is the observation of strangers is important because this is how 99.999999…..of the people will see you. your friends know you and can make accurate assumptions but the public will be lost. having strangers give you their opinion is the most valuable thing you can have. ask any movie studio that has pre-audience screenings and ask any company that relies on statistical analysis.

to take something and place it higher than yourself. that is being a representative.

best of luck for the future miss maurina
