I was just thinking about BR’s post about how hard it is for singles to meet each other in Brunei. More specifically, the person mentioned in his post.
AA: Working with the government, upwardly-mobile professional, drives a luxury sports car, graduated fromย a top 10 university, good-looking, however, single.
Chehhhhhh, still single ka? I know a few girls I’d like to set you up with. (BR said his phone number is available on request! Apa lagi girls!) Just pray that he’s absolutely nothing like him.
However, yes, I do agree there do seem to be a lot of very successful single men and women running around Brunei nowadays. Yet, the fact that there are a lot of single men running around Brunei in nice cars only occured to me when I have already met someone. When I was single, I was practically convinced that all Bruneian men are all either MARRIED or GAY and that the ones with mild traces of a sense of humor are a breed on the brink of extinction.
However, I do see some sort of a paradox. Basically, the good ones are always at home, playing with their nieces and nephews (because they’re good men), and thus they are never out and about. The ones out and about are friends of your friend’s friend, who just broke up with so and so because he’s a lying cheating bastard/equivalent bad reputation so they’re not potential boyfriend material.
The ones in luxury sports cars, who seem to have some semblance of a face, and a system of articulate speech, only go for skinny girls with long legs (naturally). Plus, even if you do end up with them, you’ll always come second (the car comes first). Plus, it would take him forever to settle down with you because he probably has to pay off the car loan before he can actually afford to get married.
The rest of the male population are all intimidated by you and think you only go for rich guys. (Men in the country, I’ve noticed, do not like challenges. They like meek women who are mildly spirited and will cater to their every whim without asking “why”.)
Of course you can opt for non-Bruneians who are bolder and less intimidated. There are plentiful of them living and working in the country with no immediate plans of going back to their home country, however, you would have to come up with some sort of a plan to make them divorce their wife because most of them are married. Plus, if they’re single, they’re not very funny and you’d have to keep up with their superiority complex of dating an Asian from the Island of Borneo.
Sigh. Life of a single Bruneian women. In the end all you can do is, touch up your lipstick, pick someone from Friendster and brace yourself.

Ya Allah, ada-ada saja! But my own good guy stays at home a lot, playing with his niece. He may be reading this, so I should stop before he asks you to remove it. Hahaha.
Like I said, ada-ada saja!

Hahahahah!!! Tapi see, youve just illustrated my point! Good ones are not married or gay. Theyre staying at home playing with their nieces and nephews.

Girls are hard to understand.. (except my sister and mom). I always hear/read my friends say “bini2 brunei ni mahal2”. Hehe.. most my friends (I mean the girls) are still single. Some of them never had a relationship before!!!

well, i like the idea of Bruneian girls “mahal mahal”… Nothing more sexier than girls who are hard to get, but not-too-hard-to-get ofcourse. We, men love the challenge =) If it is only for one night stand on the other hand..

Girls are hard to understand and it is part of the lure, Duolulu.
bruneian girls are just hard to get because Bruneian men won’t work hard to get. Then when they do get one, they don’t work hard to maintain the relationship. of course lah, the blame not only on the men. women play a majopr part too. it is after all, a two way road. ๐
Hoon, haha. Well, have fun pursuing the challenge.

Sometime I feel that it’s a permanent ans or destiny. No matter hard a man work, it won’t help. What if I still love a girl even she is already married?? Wait until she divorce ka. Hehe.. and u know, because of that all hard work that don’t work at all, then it’s hard to move on!! Reason: the girl u love still haunting ur mind.. but she already forgot u.

I suppose I was lucky to find someone who did not quite fit into the mould. Or is that what they all say? =D
Btw, I find that I am related to you. You know, in that way most Bruneians find themselves related to each other. But it’s not important yes? ;P *skulks off, back to ‘anonymous’ blog world*
P.S. That was a good post, entertaining. XD
