Today I will write about SEX. Red, hot, mind-blowing SEX! Nyahaha. Did I get your attention? Okay, now that I have your attention, what I really wanted to write about is a much less racy subject which is the difference between CONTINUALLY and CONTINUOUSLY.
Before anyone of you say “they’re the same”, hold your breath because if they are the same, this would be a totally useless post. Now why on *earth* would I want to dedicate one blog post to something useless?
Why I am writing this post really should be a non-issue. I don’t even know why I brought up the subject. I should be deleting this paragraph.
However, yes, CONTINUOUSLY and CONTINUALLY are different words with different meanings.
CONTINUOUSLY (no I’m not yelling!), is when something is done repetitively without intervals. For example, continuous sneezing during Phantom of the Opera.
CONTINUALLY (honest to God, I’m not yelling), is when something is done repeatedly but with time intervals. For example, he is continually harassing me yada yada.
And now for a plagiarised piece from Dictionary.com to further enlighten this educational moment while simultaneously adding some vague semblance of credibility to this pathetically traffic hungry piece of writing:
These adjectives mean occurring repeatedly over a long period of time. Continual is chiefly restricted to what is intermittent or repeated at intervals: The continual banging of the shutter in the wind gave me a headache. Continuous implies lack of interruption: The horizon is a continuous line.
So yes, now you know the difference between those two seemingly similar words, use them properly. May this post bring you closer to that elusive goal of lexical perfection.

heheh!!! sehari sepatah kata..that’s weird, U know wat I’ve known the difference ages ago when pointed out by a friend of mine in Malaysia who teaches Philosophy. Iatah bah that extra information in my head must’ve stuck for some odd reason I don’t know wat. If not, I’m just a mere nerd for retaining that piece of information!! hahaha..

Haha, that should be for those lacking in grammatical skills. I find it really odd that sometimes the ones that have a total lack of grammatical skills are the ones you don’t expect to have problems with grammar.

Not only that, also, some people say ‘it means’ or ‘its means’ instead of ‘that means’. Do double check for me if it is correct to use ‘it means’ instead of ‘that means’, e.g. ‘So it means…’ and ‘So that means…’

mamalobengs: hahahah! actually i’ve learnt of the difference between the two words just a year or so ago. i can’t for the life of me remember what “staid” means withoutthe dictionary but this two words.. INGAT. the conclusion? our heads work in weird ways.

adorable: haha, i get ANNOYED by “that’s mean”… “that’s” is a constriction(fancy word for short form) of THAT IS. Kalau u say THAT’S MEAN ertinya, u are saying “that is mean yadayada”. Horror.

I seldom open up my dictionary when I was small, that’s why my grammar + vocab are BAD. Infact, I rarely see the word CONTINUALLY in my daily life. But I always see the word CONTINUOUSLY during my maths class.
U said CONTINUALLY is when something is done repeatedly but with time intervals. Can you explain more about “time intervals” (i.e how long)?
I prefer to learn programming language.. english is hard for me.. and luckily I passed all my four semester english subject!!!
