KK is effectively Bruneians’ second home. With better roads and 40 minute flights connecting BSB and KK, it’s no wonder why KK is littered with Bruneians.
KK also delights a foodie like me as I’ve recently realised that beyond the cheap seafood, they also have a bustling cafe scene. Below are 5 places we went to in KK:
01: Eat Play Woo
We came here to have high tea from the airport as soon as we arrived in KK. Knowing full well we actually have dinner plans – couldn’t help but order many things!!!
Menu range from pastas to tacos to ricebowls and fries. Pretty much everything we ordered was delicious!
Recommended eats: Spaghetti Carbonara, Sweet Potato Fries, Cafe Latte

02: Yee Fung Laksa
One of the more popular eats in KK!

Always hustling and bustling, you will need to queue up for seat space and waitresses here need to get orders quick to service the crazy crowd!
But the experience is a must!
Recommended eats: Big Prawn Laksa
Address:

03: Restoran Sri Melaka
Recommended by our knowledgeable driver/tour guide in our moments of weakness (lapar) we tried this baba/nyonya cuisine restaurant out. He mentioned this is a really popular restaurant among KK locals.
Restaurant looks a bit dated in decor but still full of patrons (eventhough it was a little after lunch hour) – a good sign! Ordered so much (too much) food we thought but they all arrived in record time and we actually end up finishing everything also in record time!!! Food was too good we just inhaled them.
Recommended eats: Assam Curry Fish, Daging Kuah Satay
Address:
9, Jalan Laiman Diki, Kampung Air, 88000 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

04: Biru Biru Cafe
Such a pretty place!

At this point I have already tried a couple of restaurants and cafes so my expectations are high.
Ordered so much when we were here and the stand out was the burger! So so good. They have healthy options, build your own bowls, and naughty options too.

Recommended eats: Signature Waffles, Biru Biru Burger, Acai Bowl

05: Ampersand
Super minimalist, super industrial kind of decor. Tbh quite blah to me. Furthermore omehow when we were here they did not have food.
But why am I recommending them??? Well wow – the coffee deserves a spot on this list! Definitely one of the best coffees I’ve had ever!
Recommended eats: Affogato, Caramel Latte, Burnt Cheesecake
